The festive season is right around the corner and Chapelton is gearing up for another sparkling celebration! Taking place on Friday 28th November, Chapelton Community Association would like to invite you to join in officially welcoming Christmas with our annual light switch-on event.
With delicious food, entertainment and late-night shopping, this is an event you won’t want to miss!
Here’s what’s in store…
Meet Santa at 5:30pm
The festivities kick off at 5:30pm with Santa’s Grotto at The Hut, where little ones can meet the man himself. Tickets are just £2 per child which can be purchased on the day – cash is preferred, though a QR payment will also be available.
Look out for Chapelton’s first Christmas tree
You may have already spotted it while passing through Chapelton, but we’re tree-mendously excited to announce that we officially have a Christmas tree for the first time this year! Our 14ft fir is standing tall in Hume Square and will be all lit up this Friday!
Lights on at 6:15pm
The Chapelton Community Association has been working hard to make this year’s lights bigger and brighter than ever. As tradition goes, this year’s Chapelton Community Hero, Karine Butler, will join Santa to officially switch on the lights at 6:15pm in Hume Square.
Afterwards, the crowds will follow the sound of the pipers up to Landale Court, where the lights at Brio will also be switched on, ensuring everyone in Chapelton can be part of the celebration.
Christmas carols and late night shopping
We’re delighted that the Newtonhill P7 Choir will be performing some Christmas carols, giving everyone the chance to enjoy some music while catching up with friends and neighbours.
The Boxes will also be open late for anyone wishing to get a head start on their Christmas shopping, including Red Rocks and Skin & Co.
Food and drinks available
A variety of food trucks will be serving up delicious treats, including Quayside Gourdon, Aberdeen Angus Food Truck and Donuts & Crepes.
Brio will also be serving hot food, tea and coffee so you can enjoy the festivities from the warmth indoors.
For the adults, The Gatehouse Taproom will be serving mulled wine and cider and hosting the after-party.

As the air begins to chill and the darker nights roll in, Chapelton is coming alive with the cosy charm of autumn.
There are lots of exciting activities happening across the town – the perfect opportunity to wrap up warm and get ready for a fun-filled few weeks ahead! Whether you’re looking for family-friendly fun, a social night out or a peaceful way to enjoy the outdoors, Chapelton has something for everyone this autumn.
Halloween house decorating competition
The long-anticipated Halloween House decorating competition kicks off on Monday 20th October and is set to bring a touch of spooky magic to every corner of Chapelton! After this year’s hugely popular Scarecrow Festival, residents are already buzzing with ideas and preparing to transform their homes into haunted masterpieces.
Expect glowing pumpkins, creepy creatures peeking from gardens and plenty of creative surprises around every corner. It’s a wonderful chance for the community to come together – whether you’re taking part or simply enjoying a walk through the decorated streets.
The winner will be announced on Halloween night (31st October) so make sure your cobwebs are perfectly placed and your ghouls are ready to impress!
Pub quiz, crime and wine at the Taproom
Following the success of the first quiz night back in August, The Gatehouse Taproom’s quiz nights will continue on the last Thursday of every month, with the next one on Thursday 23rd October.
With plenty of exciting prizes up for grabs – including bottles of fizz, pizzas and gift vouchers – it’s the perfect evening for fun, laughter and friendly competition.
Also, on Thursday 30th October, The Taproom is hosting an evening of crime and captivating conversation. Attendees will hear from a former Police Scotland Detective Superintendent and a Forensic Pathologist, sharing gripping experiences from the front lines. This rare event includes an open Q&A, giving you the chance to ask the questions you’ve always wanted answered.
The evening kicks off at 6pm, with charcuterie boards available for pre-order. Simply message The Gatehouse Taproom on Facebook or Instagram to secure your table. There is no admission fee, but all attendees are encouraged to make a small donation to the Chapelton Community Association.
Bingo night at Slate & Grain
The upcoming bingo night on Friday 14th November at Slate and Grain in Brio, Landale Court has officially sold out. Doors open at 6:30pm and each ticket includes five bingo cards – giving plenty of chances to shout “Bingo!”

Autumn workshops with RedRocks
RedRocks has a series of seasonal workshops coming up in The Hut – including a Medicinal Herb Workshop (24th October), a Samhain Circle (1st November) and a Shamanic Healing Journey (6th November). All are now fully booked but it’s worth keeping an eye out for future sessions – they’re always popular and offer a unique way to relax, learn and connect.
Explore the Chapelton trail
If you prefer something a little quieter, the Chapelton trail is simply stunning at this time of year. Follow the marked route in an anti-clockwise loop starting and finishing at Hume Square, where cherry trees and spring bulbs frame the walk. The trail takes you along the historic Causey Mounth, past East Drive’s beech hedges, Duke’s Walk, the tranquil Elsick Burn and Dubbis Stile, before climbing towards Cairnhill Copse with its mix of pines, spruces and native trees.
As the leaves turn warm shades of amber and gold, the paths around town offer the perfect escape for a crisp autumn walk – whether you’re taking the dog out, meeting friends for coffee or enjoying a peaceful moment in nature.
Cosy cafe season
Afterwards, why not warm up with a hot drink at Chapelton’s Brae? There’s nothing better than settling in with a steaming cup and watching the world go by. Brae is currently serving up a range of seasonal specials including pumpkin spice, maple and cinnamon bun coffees – the perfect flavours to capture the essence of autumn.

From busy farmers’ market weekends to juicing for celebrities and nourishing a growing wellness community – we caught up with Vanessa to hear how The Juicing Co. is getting on at its premises 18 months after receiving the keys.
What makes Chapelton feel like the right ‘home base’ for The Juicing Co?
“It’s literally a seven-minute drive from my house to my box – which is ideal. But honestly, the community here is just lovely. I love, love, love the Chapelton community – they’re so supportive. I’ve made so many lovely friends here – they really are the best.
“Plus, The Boxes are also such a unique opportunity – there isn’t anything else that offers small, sustainable spaces for growing businesses. This made that first jump so much less scary!”
What’s it like working alongside other small, local businesses at The Boxes?
“It’s lovely. Everyone is here to support each other, we’ve got each other’s back. We all help each other out. Even though we’re all well-established in our own right, we’re still young, small businesses and a lot of us work solo, so having that little network around you really helps – it makes things feel less lonely.”
It’s been 18 months since you moved into The Boxes. How has your business changed since then?
“The growth has been phenomenal. Before, I was juicing from home – and I never want to do that again! I had to work on a much smaller scale, which meant I couldn’t do events or anything like that.
“Since moving into The Boxes, everything has just grown really quickly. The farmers’ markets brought a whole new level of exposure – we’ve had queues for over an hour and a half! I feel bad in one way, but it’s also amazing.
“Having a physical space has brought a whole new level of visibility. If this is what the last 18 months have brought, I’m excited to see what the next 18 look like!”
What have been your biggest learnings as a business owner – and what advice would you give to others thinking of setting up in Chapelton?
“I think the biggest thing I’ve learned is to be flexible. You have to be willing to pivot quickly and not be afraid to try new things. Some ideas work brilliantly, and others don’t – and that’s okay. That’s just part of running a small business.
“You need to let go of your ego, be okay with things not always going to plan, and just keep trying. It’s definitely a resilience thing – learning, adapting and moving forward.
“And if you’re thinking of setting up in Chapelton, my biggest advice would be: support the local community, and the community will support you. If you show up for others, they’ll rally around you too – that’s what I’ve seen time and time again here.”
What have been some of your biggest “pinch me” moments?
“I’ve had a few pretty wild moments actually! I’ve got videos of Joey Essex drinking our juices on Dancing on Ice. We’ve also supplied Ant & Dec – I grew up watching Saturday Night Takeaway, so that was surreal.
“We’ve juiced for The Voice too – to think that Will.i.am and Sir Tom Jones have had our juices is just… wild! And I’m actually juicing for them again next month. Those kinds of moments are crazy, especially when it’s people you grew up seeing on TV.”
Have you introduced any new products or services recently? What’s proving popular?
“Other than our core range of juice packages, we launched group cleanses at the end of last year – they were really popular, and I love the community aspect of them.
“Then there’s matcha lattes – probably our most popular item ever. People are obsessed! We’ve done variations like maple matcha, vanilla matcha, and I’m about to trial a delicious collagen matcha too.
“We’ve got seasonal specials – like our berry basil juice. People love it! At the farmers’ markets, we do more specials, our super popular brunch bags, as well as a few refined sugar-free treats like our millionaire cups rather than the core range, so people can come try something new.
“The idea is: being healthy doesn’t have to be boring. You can still enjoy delicious things – but without emulsifiers, additives, or junk – just whole foods.”
What are you most looking forward to in the coming months?
“We’ve just finished Offshore Europe, which was our biggest project to date – producing over 2,400 juices. To top it off, we were recognised in a Parliamentary motion, which was just lovely!
“Looking ahead, we’re juicing for The Voice again next month, which is so exciting!
“Going forward, I want to focus on bringing out more simple wellness tools – I’ve got another eBook in the works…
“I’m also looking into bringing someone on board, which could allow us to open more days, do more events, and expand on the wellness lifestyle side of the business. I want to keep creating that awareness – that The Juicing Co is about wellness, community and feeling good from the inside out.”
Now that September is here and the little ones are back to school, we’re taking a moment to look back on one of this summer’s most joyful community events here at Chapelton – the 7th annual Scarecrow Festival.
Held during the month of August, the festival brought together residents and visitors alike. With almost 60 scarecrows popping up throughout the town, this year’s ‘freestyle’ theme gave participants the freedom to let their imaginations run wild – and the results did not disappoint. With everything from a Minion to Donald ‘Hay’ Trump to Paddington Bear, the creativity on display this year was fantastic
After much anticipation, and some tough-decision making, the winners were proudly announced:
1st Place: No. 49 Jet 2 Holidays had everyone booking a one-way ticket to first place!
2nd Place: No. 11 Dave the Seagull truly ruffled some feathers – in the best way!
3rd Place: No. 38 Feathers McGraw slid into third with some seriously criminal creativity!
A massive well done to everyone who took part, and heartfelt thanks to everyone who visited, voted and helped make this year’s festival such a success.
And of course, a huge congratulations to the winners! All funds raised will be donated to charities of their choice – an important reminder that while this event is all about getting creative and bringing our wonderful community together, it’s also about giving back.

The wait is nearly over – Chapelton’s next Farmers’ Market is just around the corner, and it promises to be one of our biggest yet!
On Sunday 21st September from 11am to 2:30pm, Chapelton will be buzzing with food, crafts, local produce and plenty of community spirit. From farm-fresh meats to handmade bakes, eco-friendly treats to street food cooked on the spot, there’s something for everyone.
It wouldn’t be a Chapelton Farmer’s Market without the incredible selection of bakes and indulgences. Gumblossom Bakes, Cookie Cult and Lilybank Bakehouse will tempt you with everything from delicate cakes to rustic sourdough loaves. Those with a sweet tooth won’t want to miss Macarons by Mercedes, Shut the Fudge Up or All About Lemons, who are back with their famously fresh lemon curd and fudge. And for those who prefer to get creative in their own kitchens, Col’s Baking Kits will have all you need to whip up something delicious at home.
Street food and savoury snacks
Make sure to come hungry as the market will be filled with sizzling food cooked right in front of you! Haydn’s Woodfired Pizza and Shipyard Street Food will each be firing up their grills and ovens with dishes that are perfect to enjoy on the go. Rosa’s Sicilian Food and Pastries and A Portuguesa Products will be adding a continental twist, with Mediterranean flavours and produce guaranteed to brighten up your afternoon. The Wee Cook will also be there with their much-loved ready-to-bake pies to take home and enjoy.
Handmade and homegrown goodness
The stalls this month are bursting with creativity and craftsmanship. Toucks Wood is returning with Swedish candle logs, rustic furniture and woodcrafts, while Culter Perennials will be ready to help green-fingered shoppers add hardy plants to their gardens. Sealscrook Farmcrafted Skincare brings luxurious artisan scrubs, butters and balms, while Stinky Beasties makes sure the four-legged members of the family aren’t left out with natural pet grooming products and treats. For fresh fruit, veg and eggs, Replenish Stonehaven will also be at the market. Finally, Altons Honey Bees will be supplying their 100% beeswax wraps – a natural alternative to plastic food wrap.
Drinks and pantry favourites
There are plenty of ways to restock your cupboards too. Hungry Squirrel returns with their irresistible nut butters, while Zingy Tingy Beetroot brings a splash of colour with tangy pickled beetroot. If you’re in the mood for something refreshing, Drink Raw Culture will be serving their soft drinks and mixers. Coffee lovers will no doubt gravitate to Café Sal, where espresso, bakes and pastries will keep everyone fuelled for a full day out.

Honouring key contributors to Chapelton
Several of the new street names pay tribute to individuals who’ve played a significant role in shaping Chapelton’s vision and progress:
Austen Lane
Named after a key member of the development team, Bruce Austen wrote the education policy as part of the planning application process – helping to ensure Chapelton is well-equipped for growing families.
Finlay Street
David Finlay served as the farm manager at Elsick for over 40 years and continues to advise the team today. His deep knowledge of the land and commitment to the community made him a natural choice.
Gray Lane
Stephanie Gray was instrumental in Chapelton’s planning and development strategy as part of the Turnberry team which has led the development – we’re so grateful for the insights and expertise she has contributed to our town.
Landale Court
Peter Landale has long supported Chapelton and its development as a Trustee for the Duke of Fife’s family which has financed the development. His ongoing commitment to the community is reflected in this special recognition.
Rooted in local history and heritage

Balvenie Court
Named after Balvenie Castle, once owned by the Fife family, this nod to historical Scottish nobility reflects the family’s involvement.
Carnegie Drive
The Carnegie name is the family name of the Southesk and Fife families, who have historically – and still today – played a significant role in shaping the area’s identity and heritage.
Greenlaw Road
Reflecting a feature on the Southesk Estate, this name acknowledges the family’s involvement in the vision for Chapelton.

Geddes Square
Sir Patrick Geddes (1854–1932) was a pioneering town planner, botanist, and sociologist. Known for his innovative ideas on sustainable urban development, Geddes has had a profound influence on Chapelton’s design and philosophy – making it the perfect name for the heart of this new phase.
Telford Lane
Thomas Telford (1757–1834), the legendary civil engineer dubbed the “Colossus of Roads,” transformed infrastructure across Britain. His reputation for excellence mirrors our ambitions for Chapelton.
Watt Green
James Watt (1736–1819) revolutionised the steam engine, laying the groundwork for the Industrial Revolution. His innovation and vision reflect the spirit driving our community forward.
Commemorating historic Scottish campaigns
History lives on in the streets that recall important chapters from Scotland’s past:
Inverlochy Road
A tribute to the Battle of Inverlochy in 1644, a significant event in the great Marquis of Montrose’s campaigns during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms.
Laghtman Lane
Named after Thomas Laghtman, whose regiment was part of the Irish Brigade at Inverlochy. A name that reminds us of bravery and perseverance.

There was a real sense of celebration to be had at Landale Court as staff, homeowners and local families recently came together to bury a time capsule – a thoughtful gesture meant to be uncovered by future generations in the years to come.
The idea was sparked by Landale Court resident Alan Reid, who spent the last few months planning the event alongside Brio Retirement Living’s deputy general manager, Charlotte Kouri.
Sealed inside the capsule was a collection of treasures capturing a snapshot of life in 2025. Items included local Chapelton newsletters, a Brio Retirement Living newsletter, a Brio employee name badge, an iPhone, a Slate & Grain restaurant menu, a local newspaper, a handwritten letter from a resident’s granddaughters describing life today, memorabilia from Landale Court’s 80th VE memorial day, recent coins and stamps, a current property price list, local cinema tickets and more.
Reflecting on the project, Charlotte shared: “We’d been thinking about creating a time capsule for a while and Alan kindly took the lead in turning the idea into a reality. We encased all the items safely in the capsule and the burial took place at our weekly coffee morning. We invited local families, staff and homeowners, and I felt honoured to say a few words at the ceremony. It created a lovely piece of history for us all to enjoy and for those who may uncover it in years to come.”
The time capsule was buried in the quiet garden area at Landale Court, a peaceful space which can be visited by all. A plaque now marks the occasion with the inscription:
‘On the 19th July 2025, staff, residents and members of the Chapelton community joined together for the burial of Landale Court’s first time capsule.’
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed refreshments and lively conversations about the future, wondering who might discover the capsule and when. Some of the children imagined it might be their own great-grandchildren opening it in the year 2100!
Charlotte added: “It’s fun to imagine who will find it and how different life might be then. We hope they enjoy what they uncover and maybe even feel inspired to create a time capsule of their own. It’s been a lot of fun for everyone involved.”

The day kicks off at Patey Park – a community favourite where kids can burn off early morning energy. With plenty of green space, natural climbing frames, and seating for grown-ups to catch up or sip a takeaway coffee or tea, it’s a natural first stop on your day out around Chapelton.
Designed to nurture imagination and creativity, and inspired by nature, this park is the perfect starting point where imaginations can run free.
Afternoon: Sweet treats and a pampering session
All that running around is enough to make anyone hungry! So, it’s time to head over to Brae for a sweet treat – specifically, their delicious empire biscuit, topped with a colourful Jelly Tot and perfectly complemented by a babyccino.

Evening: A woodland adventure just before dinner
Before heading home for dinner, it’s time to stretch your legs with a wander along the Chapelton Trail. Starting just outside Brae at Hume Square, this one-hour marked walk takes you through a mix of diverse scenery and wildlife habitats.
You’ll follow ancient roads, wander through a magical forest, and cross a babbling burn – all while enjoying stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The trail is buggy-friendly and perfect for the whole family – a brilliant way to make memories together, whatever the weather. Just a few miles south of Aberdeen, the vibrant new town of Chapelton is making a name for itself – not just for its stylish homes and green spaces, but for its buzzing local scene and the strong sense of community at its heart.
At the centre of it all is The Boxes: a colourful collection of innovative pop-up style retail units that give small businesses the perfect opportunity to grow in a thriving Aberdeenshire town.
One of the early arrivals was Cox & Co, a friendly barbershop that first opened in the summer of 2021. After a fresh rebrand in early 2023, the business has continued to flourish – most recently expanding into a double unit to keep up with demand. From haircuts to beard trims and facials, Cox & Co offers the full works, all delivered with precision, care and a good chat from owner Josh Cox.
We caught up with Josh to hear all about what inspired him to launch his business in Chapelton, the exciting journey so far and why he loves being part of this growing community.
What inspired you to start Cox & Co, and how did you get into barbering?
“I got into barbering after finishing university and realising that the course I studied wasn’t right for me. I knew I wanted a hands-on job that allowed me to be creative and barbering had always interested me. I managed to secure an apprenticeship in Aberdeen and that’s where it all began.”
Why did you choose to set up your business in Chapelton?
“I moved into my house in Chapelton in 2020 and quickly realised the town was missing a barbershop. One of my clients from when I worked in Aberdeen also lived here and mentioned how great it would be to have something local. Not long after, The Boxes were advertised and it seemed like the perfect fit!”
Can you tell us more about your recent expansion at The Boxes? And what services do you offer?
“We’ve been trading for four years now and the barbershop was fully booked most weeks, so the need for expansion was clear. It just so happened that a larger box next door became available, so I jumped at the chance to upsize. It was especially convenient given it was directly next door and since I’d been hands-on with the fitting out the first space, it didn’t seem too daunting to take on the second.
“Myself and my colleague, Nathan, offer a full range of men’s grooming services, including haircuts, beard trims and facial treatments.”
What do you love most about being part of the Chapelton community?
“What we love most about having a shop in Chapelton is how friendly the clientele is. Across all ages, every customer is polite and easy to talk to. The town has a real culture of supporting local and independent businesses, and you really feel that, especially when you see familiar faces returning each week.”
How have the local residents and businesses supported you since opening?
“The businesses at The Boxes are really supportive of one another – from sharing social media posts to recommending one another to customers. There’s a strong sense of camaraderie and a shared goal of helping each business grow as much as possible.”
Do you have any memorable customer stories or experiences from Chapelton?
“It’s always great hearing what everyone in the town has been up to, whether it’s preparing for the Chapelton 10k, grabbing a chippy from the Quayside Van or having a pint at Devenick Drinks while the kids play in the park. There’s always a strong feeling of community and it creates such a great atmosphere to work in.”
