Nourish and glow with The Juicing Co. at The Boxes

Less than a 20 minute drive from Aberdeen city centre, the thriving town of Chapelton provides its residents with an extensive range of beautiful new homes, plentiful green spaces and a bustling town centre.

In the heart of this vibrant community are The Boxes, temporary retail structures providing start-up businesses with the opportunity to expand their presence. Bringing a refreshing blend of local charm and healthy living to Chapelton, The Juicing Company is the latest addition to The Boxes, offering residents delicious (and nutritious) raw, cold pressed juices. Established in 2017, Founder and Director of The Juicing Co. Vanessa Bremner seized the opportunity to create a company with health and wellbeing at the forefront.

We sat down with Vanessa to discuss the inspiration behind The Juicing Company, the benefits of cold pressed juices and the inspiration behind opening an establishment in Chapelton’s town centre!

IMG_8037-1-1024x768 Nourish and glow with The Juicing Co. at The Boxes

What inspired you to establish The Juicing Company and where did your passion for healthy, fresh juice come from?

“My passion began when I saw the difference in my own journey during my time living in Singapore, where I took part in two fitness classes that completely changed my life. I loved learning about nutrition, wholefoods and how we can heal our bodies by using food as medicine. Following this, I threw myself into every nutrition class I could find and changed my entire lifestyle – hunting for every juice bar, raw food cafe and refined, sugar-free treat that Singapore had to offer!

“Before going to these classes and embarking on my health journey, I suffered from daily fatigue, oily skin, low energy, terrible bloating and stomach pain.  All of these symptoms quickly began to disappear after I overhauled my lifestyle, and started focusing on nourishing my body with fresh whole foods and reducing/eliminating processed foods.

“Honing in on my new-found passion for all things health and wellbeing, my husband and I went on to travel the world – from India to New York, Australia to the Maldives and all over South East Asia – learning more about the local food from each destination. However, after falling pregnant with our first baby in 2015, I returned to Aberdeen and tried to implement our new lifestyle back home, which proved difficult as I struggled to source the same high-quality, healthy foods and raw juice was impossible to find. This inspired me to bring my dream to life and start supplying healthy, cold pressed juices to Aberdeen.

“I took the leap and decided to register The Juicing Co., and everything just seemed to fly from there!”

What are some of the health benefits people can experience when drinking raw/cold pressed juices?

“Raw, cold pressed juice is an incredible and valuable tool for optimising your health. The juicing process removes the insoluble fibre from the fresh ingredients and produces a pure juice that has come directly from nature – filled with vitamins, minerals and live enzymes!

“Each of our 500ml bottles contains approximately 1kg of fresh produce, and because the insoluble fibre has been removed, the vitamins and minerals within the juice can be absorbed quickly and easily, nourishing your cells and allowing those nutrients to be used exactly where they are needed.

“Incorporating raw, cold pressed juice into your daily diet can provide many health benefits, but consistency is key to seeing long term results. Benefits our clients have reported include clearer and brighter skin, reduced bloating, increased energy, improved sleep and weight loss. Although weight loss isn’t something we focus on, we do have clients who use juicing with their 5:2 etc lifestyles.”

PHOTO-2024-02-25-17-56-45-1-768x1024 Nourish and glow with The Juicing Co. at The Boxes

Why did The Boxes at Chapelton appeal to you when opening The Juicing Company?

“When I was looking to take the next step and open our own juice production kitchen and juicery, an opportunity came up at The Boxes in Chapelton which seemed like the perfect option. A beautiful location with great terms for small businesses and fantastic support from the team at Chapelton was an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down.”

What is your favourite thing about being based in Chapelton?

“Working in Chapelton comes with many perks, but my favourite things about the town have to be the lovely community, stunning views and diverse range of wonderful small businesses.”

What kind of products does The Juicing Company offer?

“We offer a wide range of raw, cold pressed juices made to order from our Chapelton Juicery and with nationwide delivery, ranging from powerful Tonic Shots, Fridge Fillers, 3 Day Cleanses and Mini Cleanse. We also plan to open as a ‘grab and go’ juice shop once a month and/or at The Chapelton farmers markets, allowing you to pop in and enjoy all the incredible benefits of juice on the go. All of our juices have been designed with our Nutritionist to ensure you feel your absolute best – so wherever you are on your health journey, we’ve got you covered.”

Stay active in Chapelton with The Carved Group

Chapelton is filled with a thriving array of independent businesses, ranging from luxurious beauty and spa treatments at The Lounge on Quarryline Street to the refined craft beers offered by Devenick Drinks Co at The Boxes. But it’s not just the retail spaces that thrive in the community. A local dynamic duo, Katie and Neil, have cultivated a community-driven approach to health and vitality with their thriving online business, The Carved Group.

To delve into the story behind The Carved Group, we had the opportunity to sit down with co-owner Neil to discuss the journey, services, and aspirations fueling the business, and why the Chapelton community should consider getting involved!

How did The Carved Group come about, and what inspired its creation?

“Katie started her coaching business, Carved by Carbie, over 10 years ago now and I started mine, Back to Basics Coaching, in 2022. At the start of 2023, we had the brain wave of combining the businesses, and for me to join the business full time, leaving my corporate position – a risk that was definitely worth taking as we have grown from strength to strength since then!

“Katie is studying nursing as she has a passion for helping people which ties in perfectly with our coaching business, as the main aim for us is to change people’s lives for the better.

“We are also both competitive bodybuilders (although we don’t expect clients to be!). We focus 99.9% on lifestyle, and for me, it was not only helping people but also about sharing a passion for training and finding the limit (and beyond). We believe that if you combine the two, results will follow!”

What specific fitness services does The Carved Group offer to its clients?

“We currently offer online coaching which is our busiest service. Our coaching focuses on mental wellbeing, building good habits and routines, fitness and physical performance, and self-belief. We also offer a very limited number of 1:1 sessions at Impact Fitness in Stonehaven, where you get everything included in our online package including one face-to-face session per week with Katie.

“Additionally, we also offer Carved Habitual which is our foundation group course. This is a 6-week course focused purely on habit building and mindset work.”

How does The Carved Group provide support and guidance to clients, especially in an online setting?

“Each client has their own WhatsApp group with both of us, meaning someone is always on hand to support if the client requires it. We also often arrange video calls so we can get some face-to-face time with clients. Every week our clients get in-depth video feedback on their unique coaching plan/tracker which they fill in daily, so no stone is left unturned!”

Why should the Chapelton community get involved with The Carved Group?

“We of course live in Chapelton and work from here. Maybe even one day we will run a boot camp in the village! We offer a selection of services for all fitness levels and we also support local where we can, and I guess it’s nice to have that reciprocated.”

What are your future goals for The Carved Group?

“At the moment we are focusing a lot on growing the online side of the business. Our vision includes a wellbeing and aesthetics clinic, potentially a gym or PT studio, and many other ideas. But we always take things one step at a time and focus our efforts on what we are passionate about, and that’s helping and providing services to help people and make them feel great!”

What do you enjoy most about running your own business?

“The hard work! This sounds strange and I think there is a common misconception that being your own boss allows more freedom – it doesn’t!

“When you are a small but growing business there is no downtime, it’s 24/7. But, it’s incredibly rewarding to see something you work so hard at grow and become recognised in the community. One of our clients, Nicola McGee, is a Chapelton resident and joined The Carved Group as a 1:1 client before moving online to prepare for her wedding. She absolutely loved her experience and couldn’t thank us enough for making her feel amazing on her big day!”

What do you like about living and working in Chapelton?

“I started looking at properties in Chapelton in 2016 and instantly fell in love with how the village felt. It reminded me of a peaceful town of days gone by! Friendly and neighbourly with a strong sense of community, and of course very aesthetically pleasing!

“It’s close to the city but far enough away to be tranquil, making it the perfect place to live and work. The green areas allow for perfect head space and a welcome break from being buried in a laptop screen.

“It took 5 years to eventually buy the perfect house for us but we got there in the end and finally moved in spring 2022. We are extremely happy here and looking forward to a good few years here yet.”

In Chapelton’s vibrant landscape, The Carved Group is a hub for wellness and community involvement. Through their personalised coaching, Katie and Neil help people reach their full potential and are dedicated to making lives better, both in Chapelton and beyond.

Take a stroll through Chapelton’s charming walkways

Every town starts with a big idea and a carefully crafted masterplan, and for Chapelton, this masterplan was inspired by the sociality seen throughout traditional Scottish towns such as Stonehaven, St. Andrews and Montrose.

Bringing to life the idea of residents living coherently amongst one another, Chapelton was designed with the purpose of putting the community at the heart of everything. From the placement of the local shops and amenities to the layout of the streets and walkways, each element of the town has been thoughtfully considered to create a desirable community where residents can live, work and play.

In this blog post, we delve deeper into the significance and role that the design of the walkways play throughout the community in Chapelton, creating a safe space for residents to explore the town and interact with their neighbours…

What is the significance of the path network in Chapelton?

The landscape and network of streets in Chapelton, structurally underpin the design of the masterplan and have been strategically developed to strengthen the community and social aspect of the town.

Pockets of green space have been dotted throughout Chapelton, offering residents plenty of room to relax and explore, while a network of walkways can be found intertwining around the town, helping to define and link the streets and pathways together. The main purpose of introducing the walkways was to make it easier and safer for residents to travel between the different neighbourhoods and amenities throughout the town, whether that be via a gentle stroll, run or cycle.

What are the key benefits of the walkable pathways?

Connectivity

Many of the streets and pathways are designed for pedestrian use only including Bunting Place and Rennie Place, making it extremely easy for residents and visitors to explore Chapelton on foot without the need to use a car or hop on public transport to get around the town.

Sociability

Having the walkways run across the town helps to strengthen the sense of sociability. Often quieter than the main thoroughfares, the pathways provide the ideal spot for impromptu catch-ups or play areas for children. The informal setting helps to encourage residents to converse with one another and creates a sense of belonging within the community.

Aesthetics

In addition to the pedestrian-only streets, there are also walkways that offer vehicle traffic access for parking and entrance to the garages tucked behind the properties, such as North Bell Rock Lane and Nether Cairnhill Lane. The tactical placement of the walkways helps to keep the main thoroughfares, such as Greenlaw Road, clear and tidy from any obstructions – adding to the overall aesthetic appeal of the town.

Significant care and maintenance have also gone towards transforming the pathways into enjoyable walking routes. From a playful use of colour and materials to deflect vistas and variations in the building lines, each pathway has been thoughtfully designed to catch the attention of those living or visiting the town.

Sense of security

One of the main benefits of the walkways in Chapelton is the sense of security and reassurance that it gives residents. Home to all ages, it has always been important for Chapelton to be recognised as a safe place for children to play and commute to and from school. In order to provide that extra layer of security, many of the homes in Chapelton are specifically positioned to overlook these spaces.

Community events

As Chapelton continues to grow, the walkways to the rear have become much more than just thoroughfares, with residents using the lanes to host events such as street parties filled with friends, family and neighbours – the perfect way to get to know others living in the local area!

Besides this, the famous Chapelton Scarecrow Festival also takes over the streets during the month of August, with wacky and wonderful scarecrow designs dotted throughout the streets, so exploring the lanes is the ideal way to tour the town while admiring the talented work of the community.
