Stonehaven is well served by a number of transport links including its own train station which is situated in the town centre, giving locals the opportunity to explore other areas of Scotland including Edinburgh, Inverness and Aviemore. 

Additionally, the nearby AWPR offers easy access to Aberdeen city centre, helping commuters avoid the busy city traffic. A reliable bus service, the X7 Coastrider, runs between Aberdeen and Stonehaven as well as heading further afield to towns such as Perth and Dundee. 

Aberdeen Airport is only a 30-minute drive away, making it very accessible for those travelling nationally or overseas.

Whether you are a growing family or looking to settle down somewhere with plenty of schooling options, Stonehaven offers a wide selection of schools suitable for all ages. 

For children taking their first steps into the education system, there are two excellent nurseries; Croft Nurseries and Simpson Playhouse. These are followed by multiple local primary schools such as Arduthie Primary School and Dunnottar Primary School which are both based in the town centre. On the outskirts, families can also choose from Catterline Primary School and Newtonhill Primary School

In terms of secondary education, there are plenty of options in and around the town of Stonehaven. Located in the town itself is Mackie Academy, while Mearns Academy, Portlethen Academy and Banchory Academy are situated only a short drive away. 

Higher education is also available at Aberdeen College and Dundee and Angus College – both of which offer courses for students aged 16 and above and can be accessed via the above transport links. In addition, there are two reputable universities; Robert Gordon University and Aberdeen University
