Chapelton is thrilled to share that Places for People, one of our exceptional housebuilders, has been recognised with two prestigious awards at the WhatHouse? Awards 2024.

The UK’s leading social enterprise has taken home the Bronze award for Best Large Housebuilder and the Gold award for Best Placemaking for its flagship development here at Chapelton.

With over 50 years of expertise, Places for People are masters at creating homes that prioritise space, convenience, privacy, and energy efficiency. Their work at Chapelton stands as a brilliant showcase of how thoughtful design and a strong focus on community can come together to deliver truly outstanding results!

To date, Places for People has delivered 313 beautiful homes in Chapelton, with an additional 279 currently under construction. Each home in Chapelton boasts a recognisable architectural style, including sash windows, high ceilings and chimneys – adding a timeless charm to every home.

The judges at the WhatHouse? Awards had high praise for Chapelton, commenting: “Despite being only a few years old, you get the sense of Chapelton being a village community that has been in place for generations and no sense at all of being on a building site – even with a further 7,000 homes yet to be built. The architecture is a triumph, with local vernacular design, winding back lanes, narrow streets and car-free areas, but it is the pepper-potting of commercial and community infrastructure throughout the development that gives residents a reason to walk from A to B and what creates the sense of community.”

They were particularly impressed with the creation of The Boxes, stating it is “an ingenious way of creating vibrancy at the outset of the project as well as creating a pathway for these local entrepreneurs to grow into the permanent commercial units.”

The judges added: “We were also impressed with the conscious efforts made by the development partners to include local people and neighbouring communities in the design of the development, and in the planning for what community infrastructure is included onsite. Dedicated spaces for social gatherings, such as community halls, outdoor picnic areas, and play areas, are already well used, with the community having hosted street parties, farmers’ markets, scarecrow festivals and easter egg hunts. This development is a joy and promises much more community action to come.”
