Replenish @ Chapelton invites you to join the refill revolution
It’s been a busy first six weeks for Donna Maver and the team at Replenish, one of the new retail offerings at the Boxes at Chapelton.
Since picking up the keys at the start of July, it was all systems go to clean, prepare, and stock the shop ahead of its opening on 20 July and then it’s been non-stop during the few weeks of trading.
Stocking a range of zero waste products, refills, local produce, and fresh fruit and veg the Chapelton store is owner Donna Maver’s second shop – her first one opened in Stonehaven in November 2020.
We asked Donna to tell us more about what customers can expect from Replenish at Chapelton.
Replenish at Chapelton is described as a zero waste and refill store can you explain what that means?
“We’re all about making it easy for customers to do their bit to reduce their environmental impact so the produce we sell is either plastic packaging free, has compostable or reusable packaging, or can be recycled.
“We also encourage our customers to BYOC – bring our own container – and join the refill revolution.
“Our customers can choose from a range of dried goods including rice, pastas, granolas, cereals, nuts, and herbs & spices plus eco-friendly cleaning products, shampoo and conditioner. Refilling and reusing containers is not only good for the environment, but it also means customers can buy only what they need.”
What are the benefits of buying only what you need?
“With the current pressures on household budgets, buying only what you need can help save money as well as reducing waste.
“Most of our fruit and veg is sold loose so rather than having to buy a pre-packed kilo of carrots, customers can buy just one or two saving money and avoiding plastic packing going to landfill.
“Plus, how many times have you found a new recipe that calls for a teaspoon each of several spices and those wee jars have sat languishing at the back of your cupboard for years? At Replenish, if you only need a couple of teaspoons of a few spices you can buy just that. Just bring your own container.”
What else can customers expect to find in store?
“We have a wide range of produce from local suppliers including jams and chutneys from Kincardineshire Castle Kitchen, sauces from Succulento, the Crafty Pickle Co kimchi and piccalilli, Deeside Honey, Katy’s Eggs, The Bread Guy bakery products, ‘dirty veg’ from Burnorrachie Farm, smoked fish from Sutherlands of Portsoy, Bannerman Butchers meat, gluten-free and vegan-friendly products and treats. There’s a range of eco-living products too including foil, greaseproof paper, kitchen foil, toothbrushes and toothpaste.”
How are you settling into the Boxes at Chapelton? We also noticed there’s a ‘weel kent face’ at Replenish – we’re delighted to see Katrina Castles is part of your Team.
“Our first six weeks have flown by – it’s been a busy time meeting new customers, getting to know our neighbours, and even a visit from our local MSP. There’s a lovely vibe at Chapelton and great community spirit. The Scarecrow Festival was a highlight – just lovely to see so many creations dotted around.
“We do indeed have a ‘weel kent face’ in the Team. I am so pleased that Katrina has joined us at Replenish. Katrina provides familiarity for our customers as she worked in the previous occupant’s greengrocery plus we have Deby Grant in the team too.”
What else can we expect from Replenish?
We have a fruit & veg box order service – we prepare a small or large box of seasonal produce ready for collection. We also have our soup bags perfect for the start of Autumn and soup season. Each bag has all you need for a pot of hearty soup including recipe. We will also be running a Christmas fruit & veg order service to help make the Christmas prep a little less stressful.
