With over 220 new homes and exciting retail spaces, Places for People‘s latest phase – Geddes Square – right here in Chapelton is our most ambitious and largest phase yet! We’re looking forward to welcoming new residents and expanding our already close-knit community.
With all the excitement building, we’ve now finalised the new street names. True to Chapelton’s spirit, each has been handpicked with purpose. Whether named after key contributors to the development or even some of Scotland’s most influential figures, every name carries a story – now woven into the fabric of our thriving town.
Let’s take a look at the meaning behind some of our newest street names…
Honouring key contributors to Chapelton
Several of the new street names pay tribute to individuals who’ve played a significant role in shaping Chapelton’s vision and progress:
Austen Lane
Named after a key member of the development team, Bruce Austen wrote the education policy as part of the planning application process – helping to ensure Chapelton is well-equipped for growing families.
Finlay Street
David Finlay served as the farm manager at Elsick for over 40 years and continues to advise the team today. His deep knowledge of the land and commitment to the community made him a natural choice.
Gray Lane
Stephanie Gray was instrumental in Chapelton’s planning and development strategy as part of the Turnberry team which has led the development – we’re so grateful for the insights and expertise she has contributed to our town.
Landale Court
Peter Landale has long supported Chapelton and its development as a Trustee for the Duke of Fife’s family which has financed the development. His ongoing commitment to the community is reflected in this special recognition.
Rooted in local history and heritage
The following names are inspired by families, estates, and landmarks that form part of the area’s rich history:
Balvenie Court
Named after Balvenie Castle, once owned by the Fife family, this nod to historical Scottish nobility reflects the family’s involvement.
Carnegie Drive
The Carnegie name is the family name of the Southesk and Fife families, who have historically – and still today – played a significant role in shaping the area’s identity and heritage.
Greenlaw Road
Reflecting a feature on the Southesk Estate, this name acknowledges the family’s involvement in the vision for Chapelton.
Celebrating Scotland’s famous figures
We’ve also named streets after Scottish pioneers whose work continues to inspire:
Geddes Square
Sir Patrick Geddes (1854–1932) was a pioneering town planner, botanist, and sociologist. Known for his innovative ideas on sustainable urban development, Geddes has had a profound influence on Chapelton’s design and philosophy – making it the perfect name for the heart of this new phase.
Telford Lane
Thomas Telford (1757–1834), the legendary civil engineer dubbed the “Colossus of Roads,” transformed infrastructure across Britain. His reputation for excellence mirrors our ambitions for Chapelton.
Watt Green
James Watt (1736–1819) revolutionised the steam engine, laying the groundwork for the Industrial Revolution. His innovation and vision reflect the spirit driving our community forward.
Commemorating historic Scottish campaigns
History lives on in the streets that recall important chapters from Scotland’s past:
Inverlochy Road
A tribute to the Battle of Inverlochy in 1644, a significant event in the great Marquis of Montrose’s campaigns during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms.
Laghtman Lane
Named after Thomas Laghtman, whose regiment was part of the Irish Brigade at Inverlochy. A name that reminds us of bravery and perseverance.

There was a real sense of celebration to be had at Landale Court as staff, homeowners and local families recently came together to bury a time capsule – a thoughtful gesture meant to be uncovered by future generations in the years to come.
The idea was sparked by Landale Court resident Alan Reid, who spent the last few months planning the event alongside Brio Retirement Living’s deputy general manager, Charlotte Kouri.
Sealed inside the capsule was a collection of treasures capturing a snapshot of life in 2025. Items included local Chapelton newsletters, a Brio Retirement Living newsletter, a Brio employee name badge, an iPhone, a Slate & Grain restaurant menu, a local newspaper, a handwritten letter from a resident’s granddaughters describing life today, memorabilia from Landale Court’s 80th VE memorial day, recent coins and stamps, a current property price list, local cinema tickets and more.
Reflecting on the project, Charlotte shared: “We’d been thinking about creating a time capsule for a while and Alan kindly took the lead in turning the idea into a reality. We encased all the items safely in the capsule and the burial took place at our weekly coffee morning. We invited local families, staff and homeowners, and I felt honoured to say a few words at the ceremony. It created a lovely piece of history for us all to enjoy and for those who may uncover it in years to come.”
The time capsule was buried in the quiet garden area at Landale Court, a peaceful space which can be visited by all. A plaque now marks the occasion with the inscription:
‘On the 19th July 2025, staff, residents and members of the Chapelton community joined together for the burial of Landale Court’s first time capsule.’
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed refreshments and lively conversations about the future, wondering who might discover the capsule and when. Some of the children imagined it might be their own great-grandchildren opening it in the year 2100!
Charlotte added: “It’s fun to imagine who will find it and how different life might be then. We hope they enjoy what they uncover and maybe even feel inspired to create a time capsule of their own. It’s been a lot of fun for everyone involved.”

Need help finding the right home?
If you’re ready to make the move but not sure where to start, we’ve got you covered:
“As soon as I stepped foot inside Landale Court, I knew I’d come home.” Those were the heartfelt words from Pat, one of our cherished residents here at Landale Court. His sentiment perfectly captures the unique sense of belonging so many feel upon arriving at the vibrant Brio Retirement community offered at Chapelton.
After a rich life of family, career and personal growth, Pat has come full circle, returning to a part of the world that has always felt like home. He shared: “You never know what life may throw at you, but I’m embracing everything on offer here at Landale Court and I am finding life much more fulfilling now I live within this beautiful community.”
Born into a family with strong ties to farming, Pat pursued his passion for agriculture with a degree from Aberdeen University. His path later led him to London for a postgraduate qualification in plant physiology from Imperial College London. After marrying, he settled in Yorkshire, raised a family and built a rewarding career in the agricultural chemicals industry. Yet, Scotland was always calling him home.
With the arrival of grandchildren and the desire to be closer to loved ones, Pat returned north to work at the local agricultural college, working his way up to a Senior Tutor before retiring. Today, he is a proud father to two sons, two stepsons and a doting grandfather to eight grandchildren scattered across the UK and beyond.
Expanding on his deep love for family, Pat spoke of how the devastating deterioration of his wife’s health prompted him to move to Landale Court: “You try your utmost, but I had become utterly exhausted, and my health began to suffer – it’s a very difficult decision to make but she’s ever so well looked after.”
Pat admits he struggled with loneliness without his wife and didn’t enjoy living alone. That’s when he made the decision to move to a community that offered independence, with the reassurance of care if or when it’s ever needed. From the moment he arrived, Pat felt something special. “Landale Court has it all,” he said.
Now settled into a spacious three-bedroom home in Phase 2, Pat enjoys the perfect balance of privacy, comfort and community. One room serves as his study, while another is ready for visiting family. His youngest son and grandchildren live just 20 miles away – close enough for spontaneous babysitting and cherished family time.
Far from slowing down, Pat has embraced all that Landale Court has to offer. From coffee mornings and quiz nights to themed events and the Chapelton Men’s social group, there’s always something on the calendar. This spring, he’s looking forward to joining the gardening club and digging into another of his lifelong passions. “I’ll be 80 in May, but I feel younger than I have done for a long time,” he beams.
That first visit sealed the deal for Pat. He said: “From the moment I stepped foot into Landale Court I knew I had to move here! The team is so welcoming and eager to help. The entire place is so relaxing because everyone is so easy going – nothing is ever too much trouble … a very different experience from other retirement developments I’d viewed previously!”
What really sets Landale Court apart for Pat – and for many of our residents – is the peace of mind it brings. He said: “I moved here with my long-term head on – thinking I may not be as able in the future, but for now I’m very independent and plan to stay that way! It’s also peace of mind for my kids too – knowing support can be on my doorstep within minutes if I ever need it. We all feel much more content and that’s how life should feel.”
He concluded: “I must say how delighted I am to be here – the staff are just wonderful and go out of their way each and every day to make life here so easy and enjoyable. I had a small fall a little while ago and the team were amazing – attending to me immediately and they came to check the bump on my knee the next day too. I really can’t express how appreciative I am of all they do – everyone is so jolly and it’s a pleasure to be in their company. Our General Manager, Morag, and her entire team are just superb. I genuinely cannot recommend Landale Court highly enough to anyone. I’m very, very happy I came home.”
Brio Retirement at Landale Court is a community dedicated to improving the quality and experience of later life. It features a community hub with a range of facilities including Slate & Grain Brasserie and Bar, wellbeing suite, arts and crafts room, a Club House for events and socialising, and more.
Brio has built retirement living with your needs at heart, whether that be living an independent lifestyle, or with more tailored care if required. Homes start at £173,250, with renting options also available.
Buying a new home is one of the most exciting and significant investments you’ll make in your lifetime. If you’re considering a new build, choosing the right house builder in Aberdeen can make all the difference in turning your dream home into reality!
At Chapelton, we understand that a home is more than bricks and mortar – it’s about lifestyle, community and craftsmanship. That’s why it’s important to partner with a house builder who aligns with your vision and delivers exceptional quality.
For those exploring house builders in Aberdeen and the surrounding areas, here are some essential steps – and insights into why Chapelton might be the perfect place to begin your journey:
1. Research local expertise
Aberdeen and its surrounding areas, such as the vibrant community of Chapelton, have a unique architectural style, locally sourced materials and planning regulations. Look for builders with extensive experience building homes in the local area.
Builders familiar with Aberdeen’s climate and community standards can make a big difference when it comes to ensuring compliance with local requirements, sourcing materials suited to the local climate and building homes that blend seamlessly with the landscape.
2. Check references and reviews
Word of mouth is still one of the best ways to find a reliable house builder. Ask for references, speak with previous home owners or explore online reviews to learn more about the builder’s reputation. Satisfied homeowners often highlight qualities like reliability, attention to detail and professionalism.
Pro tip: Visit showhomes or completed developments to see the builder’s work firsthand.
3. Explore design and customisation options
Not all builders offer the same level of flexibility. Some may provide fixed designs, while others offer customisation opportunities. Think about what matters most to you: Are you looking for energy-efficient materials? Open-plan living? A traditional or contemporary look?
At Chapelton, our house builders offer a wide range of home styles and layouts, from cosy cottages to spacious family homes. Builders here combine traditional architecture with modern features, ensuring homes are both charming and practical.
4. Understand the warranty and aftercare
A reputable house builder will offer a solid warranty and responsive aftercare services. Look into what’s included, how long the warranty lasts and how any snagging issues are resolved post-completion.
When choosing a house builder in Aberdeen, peace of mind is just as important as the design itself.
5. Incentives and financial support
Some builders offer incentives such as LBTT contributions, part-exchange options or upgrades on finishes. While this shouldn’t be your sole deciding factor, it’s worth comparing what different builders in Aberdeen have to offer.

Choosing the right location is just as important as choosing the right builder. Just 10 miles south of Aberdeen, Chapelton is a growing town designed with community and sustainability at its core.

Chapelton is thrilled to share that Places for People, one of our exceptional housebuilders, has been recognised with two prestigious awards at the WhatHouse? Awards 2024.
The UK’s leading social enterprise has taken home the Bronze award for Best Large Housebuilder and the Gold award for Best Placemaking for its flagship development here at Chapelton.
With over 50 years of expertise, Places for People are masters at creating homes that prioritise space, convenience, privacy, and energy efficiency. Their work at Chapelton stands as a brilliant showcase of how thoughtful design and a strong focus on community can come together to deliver truly outstanding results!
To date, Places for People has delivered 313 beautiful homes in Chapelton, with an additional 279 currently under construction. Each home in Chapelton boasts a recognisable architectural style, including sash windows, high ceilings and chimneys – adding a timeless charm to every home.
The judges at the WhatHouse? Awards had high praise for Chapelton, commenting: “Despite being only a few years old, you get the sense of Chapelton being a village community that has been in place for generations and no sense at all of being on a building site – even with a further 7,000 homes yet to be built. The architecture is a triumph, with local vernacular design, winding back lanes, narrow streets and car-free areas, but it is the pepper-potting of commercial and community infrastructure throughout the development that gives residents a reason to walk from A to B and what creates the sense of community.”
They were particularly impressed with the creation of The Boxes, stating it is “an ingenious way of creating vibrancy at the outset of the project as well as creating a pathway for these local entrepreneurs to grow into the permanent commercial units.”
The judges added: “We were also impressed with the conscious efforts made by the development partners to include local people and neighbouring communities in the design of the development, and in the planning for what community infrastructure is included onsite. Dedicated spaces for social gatherings, such as community halls, outdoor picnic areas, and play areas, are already well used, with the community having hosted street parties, farmers’ markets, scarecrow festivals and easter egg hunts. This development is a joy and promises much more community action to come.”
At Chapelton, classic Scottish heritage design is seamlessly blended with enterprising modern living to balance the needs of today’s dweller. Alongside other builders in the Chapelton community, Places for People adheres to stringent quality guidelines, ensuring that every home is built to last.
Caroline Fife said: “As landowners of Chapelton we have been most impressed by Places for People and their expertise in building every type of building from retail, through retirement living and rental apartments to affordable homes and larger luxury homes. They have an attention to detail and a finish that has allowed Chapelton to build a great community spirit. The collaboration between both parties has created something so much greater than other housing developments and we are very proud of what has been achieved.”
From traditional designs to contemporary styles, Chapelton offers a diverse range of housing options that cater to different tastes, lifestyles and budgets. Interested in finding out more about the People for Places homes available at Chapelton? Visit the link below

Elaine Gordon, Chapelton resident and owner of The Longhouse, has done just that! With a passion for interior design and impeccable attention to detail, Elaine has documented her journey of turning her Snowdrop Developments’ home into a warm, welcoming and stylish space on her instagram account – @ourlonghouse.
In this Q&A, Elaine shares her experience of living in Chapelton, offers insights into how she approached her redecorating journey and how Chapelton has inspired The Longhouse’s aesthetic. Whether you’re considering a move to Chapelton or simply looking for some decor inspiration, Elaine’s story will be sure to spark ideas and showcase the possibilities of a new build home in Chapelton…
What inspired you to start your “Life @ The Longhouse” Instagram account?
“Ever since I was a teenager, I’ve been a huge fan of the TV programme, Grand Designs. The home transformations and design ideas on the show sparked my passion for home decor and DIY, and is one of the reasons why I created The Longhouse Instagram account. I wanted to have a space where I could connect with like-minded people, pick up DIY hacks and follow other people’s renovation projects, as well as showcase our own journey.
“Over time, I plan to expand the account beyond just home decor. My husband and I travel a lot, so I’m excited to share our travel experiences, as well as incorporating some health and fitness content into the account, which is my main passion.”
Can you share the story behind choosing a Snowdrop home, did anything immediately stand out?
“In 2017, we travelled around Australia and fell in love with the big, open-plan homes. Australian homes are quite different from UK homes in that they’re focused around usable space – there seemed to be more thought put into the design and how the space is used than what we were used to in the UK.
“During lockdown, we were living in a flat with no outdoor space, which was really difficult. We spent a lot of time at Glen Clova Lodges during that period, where we fell in love with the longhouse style – vaulted ceilings, wood cladding and being surrounded by nature. That experience shaped what we wanted in our future home, and having open spaces, countryside views and a thoughtful design become non-negotiables for us when house hunting.
“We had visited Chapelton regularly since 2016 and absolutely loved the town, but were struggling to find a house type that ticked all the boxes. Then, on a weekend away to the Lake District, Snowdrop Developments posted 3D images of The Talisker house type design online. It was perfect and met all of our needs – and by the end of the weekend, we had put down a deposit on our new home!
“Snowdrop was completely flexible with the design, and allowed us to make bespoke changes to the internal layout. My husband, Graham, is a structural designer by trade and worked closely with Sammi, the Snowdrop architect, to tweak and re-design some of the spaces to suit us perfectly.”
What aspects of your home do you love the most, and why?
“For me, I love that every part of our house is usable space. I think that’s so important when selecting a home, and there isn’t a single room that doesn’t serve a function or get used regularly.
“The open-plan layout is one of the features I appreciate the most. It creates a real sense of spaciousness and allows a seamless flow between different areas. Whether I’m cooking in the kitchen, Graham is watching TV in the living room or the dogs are running up and down the house, everyone remains connected. It’s perfect for our lifestyle.
“My absolute favourite feature is the large gable-end window. We’ve placed a sofa right in front of it and the view is always changing, whether that be the weather or the changing of crop fields and livestock. The amount of natural light that floods the house is also incredible, it brightens up the entire space and creates a really warm and inviting atmosphere.
“Graham and I also do hybrid working, so having an office space above the garage has been a game-changer. It helps keep our work life separate from home life, making the house extremely functional and the perfect place for work, rest and play.”
How do you approach home renovation/design, do you have any favourite themes/styles?
“I usually start by scanning Pinterest and Instagram for initial ideas – that’s where I get a lot of my inspiration. I also love spending afternoons in furniture stores, like Andersons of Inverurie, browsing through fabrics and wallpaper to get a real feel for how different textures and patterns might work in a space.
“In terms of style, I wouldn’t say I stick to one particular theme, but I do love the glamorous and bold aesthetic of Art Deco. When it came to decorating The Longhouse, I decided to take a risk by blending Art Deco with country chic, which surprisingly went really well – as long as you use a common colour palette to tie everything together!
“In the last few years, I’ve found myself getting more daring with design choices, particularly when it comes to incorporating rich, bright colours.”
Have you faced any challenges in your renovation journey, how did you overcome them?
“With our house being positioned at the top of a hill in Chapelton, we can often be hit with wind from the sea. Even when it’s a beautiful, sunny day, the wind can make it difficult to sit out and enjoy the garden.
“To solve this, we decided to invest in a glass pergola. It features fixed glass panels on three sides and sliding doors that open fully on one side. The roof can also be opened up, which allows us to enjoy the outdoors while still being sheltered. Not only does it blend beautifully with our home, but it’s also transformed the garden into a space we can enjoy in all weather conditions.
“We’ve also added heaters so that we can use the pergola in the winter months. It’s now the perfect spot for entertaining, and I’ve already hosted my first afternoon garden party with the rest of the ladies living on Brooke Lane!”
What is your favourite thing about living in Chapelton, do you get inspiration from the town’s surroundings?
“The strong sense of community is my favourite thing about Chapelton. Nobody passes you by without saying hello – even the dogs! There’s a warmth and friendliness here that makes it feel really special.
“We also love the peaceful surroundings. With both sea and countryside views right on our doorstep, it’s such a contrast to the hustle and bustle of city life. Living in Chapelton has brought a more relaxed pace to our lives, and it’s completely changed how we spend our time. For us, staying in has become the new going out!”
What future plans do you have for The Longhouse that you are excited about?
“Wallpaper! It might sound ridiculous, but I absolutely love wallpaper. I’ve been following Roisin from this year’s Grand Designs Masters on Instagram, and her wallpaper ideas are amazing.
“Right now, the white walls in our home feel a bit sterile and are lacking personality, so I’m excited to introduce more warmth and character by incorporating wallpaper. I’ve already come up with ideas for framed wallpaper art in the living room, which will add some flair without detracting from the grandness of our pitched roofs.”
