Infrastructure Tender Issued for Chapelton
The tender process for the infrastructure works for the first phase of Chapelton, Scotland’s largest planned new town, is underway.
This announcement follows last week’s decision by Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee to grant approval for an outline application for 4,025 homes and a detailed application for the first 802 homes.
Six companies have been invited to tender for the multi-million pound contract, which will include roads, drainage, services and landscaping to support the first stage of 255 homes in the first Chapelton neighbourhood, Cairnhill.
Project management and construction consultancy Turner Townsend is managing the tender process of behalf of Elsick Development Company (EDC).
Norrie Kitson, Associate Director at Turner and Townsend, said; “This is a seldom-seen opportunity to be involved in developing a new type of community. We have invited a range of local and national companies to compete and hope to find a partner we can work with for the duration of this exciting project.
“We hope to announce the successful firm early August ready to start work on site in autumn.
“In this difficult economic climate it is hugely exciting to see such a major community development project bucking the trend and moving forward so confidently.”
Just last month EDC appointed mechanical and electrical engineers RSP Consulting and utilities broker Inventa Partners to work together to develop a proposal for all utilities for the development, including water, gas, telecoms and electricity.
Lord Southesk, Director of EDC, said: “After years of consulting the community and planning we are rapidly moving towards construction of a new community, which in the long term could include up to 8,000 homes.
“We look forward to the successful company breaking ground later this year.
“It won’t be long until we see a community building and, in the longer term, schools, community facilities, commercial space and a vibrant high street.”
