Chapelton 10k Fun Run and Children’s Races

Chapelton is set to host its first 10k fun run on Sunday 15th July. Part road, part trail, the race will begin in Chapelton before following past nearby Elsick House.

With all entry proceeds going towards local schools and charities, the adult’s race is now full however separate children’s events have been added to the day.

Organised by Newtonhill School, there will be two races – a 1k for those aged five years and up and a 100m toddler dash for those aged under five years. The 1k is £2 to enter and the toddler dash £1 to enter, with races starting at 10am. To find out more or register, email ChapeltonFONRun@gmail.com

Walking with Wildlife

Minibeast Scavenger Hunt (under 12s): Sunday 20 May, 11.00 – 12.30 

Meeting at the new woodland planting Nether Cairnhill

Slaters, slugs, beetles and bugs. Come along and discover the smaller residents of the community woodland at Chapelton.

Within the Chapelton community wood children will have the opportunity to scavenge for minibeasts in the long grass, gorse bushes and dry stane dyke.

A Wildlife Wander (adults): Sunday 20 May, 1.30 – 3.30

Meeting where the Trail begins on the Causey Mounth at the entrance to Chapelton.

Relax listen to the birds and take a closer look at nature on this gentle stroll wildlife spotting along part of the Chapelton Trail. Please bring binoculars if you have them, the ranger will have a few to borrow for the walk.

This walk will be on the west side of the Chapelton Trail heading down the perimeter of the grounds at Elsick House to the drive, before turning and heading back up. Participants will hopefully see skylarks and other birds in the fields as well as bumblebees and other pollinators on the rhododendrons, some of which may be in flower, as well as a variety of different tree species.
